Lockdown - Postcards from Pembrokeshire

Over the past 12 months, in common with people throughout the world, the people of Wales have spent extended periods of time in Covid Lockdown. For many, travel, by anything other than on foot, has been restricted. The images I post here have been taken by me over the past few months, they represent glimpses of thoughts, feelings and brief experiences of my personal journey through Lockdown.

The travel restraints of Lockdown force me to spend time walking the streets and paths close to home, it is there that I look for photography inspiration.

Many businesses, both retail and hospitality are closed. This gives me the opportunity to look into shop and restaurant windows in a shameless way - generally, I would feel some embarrassment.

I own to being fascinated by the reflections that naturally occur on large glass windows. These reflections form a layer which seems, to my eye, to meld into the interior behind the glass - forming a new, strange and frequently, beautiful reality.

This particular window, that of an empty restaurant, drew me in because of the lack of people in what would ordinarily, outside of Lockdown, be a ‘peopled’ place. It put me in mind of a stage in an empty theatre, which only seems to comes to life when the actors and audience arrive. There is something expectant and waiting in its emptiness. It was this quality that I wanted to capture.
